In this commercial they use Gestalt, because in the entire commercial there is an oddness and intensity to all of the colors, and there are really weird camera angles. The music is a bit over the top, but hey, it does add some intensity to it. I think that the audience for this commercial is people who watch the Olympics, because the whole commercial is targeted around athletes and their fans. The whole slogan, "move to the beat," doesn't sound right to me. I think that they were trying to get a way to connect the music with the Olympics, because the music in the commercial wasn't that great.
The need to affiliate is used in this commercial because everybody is holding a Coca-Cola bottle so it makes you think that by drinking Coke and watching the Olympics you'll be just like every other mainstream person out there. They might have also used the need to satisfy curiosity because some of the sports in the commercial I have never seen in my entire life. I had no clue what they were.
When I was watching this commercial, I totally forgot that it was a Coca-Cola advertisement. I was so caught up with watching the different athletes and listening to the cool sounds. I didn't even see people holding the Coca-Cola bottles except for the beginning because I was so drawn in to the Olympics aspect of the commercial. I think they should have included Coca-Cola more throughout the ad. There were some points where it was really similar to Target because of the large amounts of white. I agree with you on the intensity of the light in the commercial. I noticed that whenever they introduced a new sport, there was a bright flash of light behind the athlete. I think this was to grab the viewer's attention even more and point out that they were introducing another sport.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cameron. You lose sight of the fact that this is a commercial for Coca Cola. The only thing that could tell me that it's Coca Cola is that everything is red and white. There's just too much going on in this commercial. There's no focus. There's a concert going on while people are doing various sports around the concert. I don't know what I'm suppose to concentrate on.
ReplyDeleteI feel that Coca Cola is trying target young British viewers. When I fist saw the singer, I thought it was a singer named Janet Devlin who appeared on the most recent season of the X Factor UK. However, upon further investigation I found it was not Janet but Katie B. Still, I saw that in the Youtube comments that other people had the same thought as I. If I saw this commercial on TV, I would have thought it was Janet.
Some Ad techniques in this commercial are bandwagon and transfer/association. Bandwagon is used as everyone is having a party and drinking Coca Cola. Transfer/association is used because the commercial is trying to say that drinking Coca Cola is like a wild and fun party.
